What Moms Really, Really Want for the Holidays

Last week we asked you what you really, really want for the holidays and your reccs did not disappoint! We all remember the viral SNL skit with Kristin Wiig from a few years ago, right? Moms typically get a bit screwed in the gift department despite being the purveyors of holiday magic.

Without a doubt your number one ask was some time off and SLEEP. The moms are tired, y’all. So damn tired. Give us 48 hours in a hotel room or some money toward a trip with our friends. After the last two (hundred) years of pandemic parenting, we deserve it. As for gifts we can open — Mom Group, share this list widely and shamelessly.

So many of your asked for some variation of a cozy/fuzzy/comforting blanket. Our favorite caveat was “that our kids and partner have to ask permission to use.” These jewel-toned faux fur blankets feel extra luxurious. Give mama some luxury.

We’ve been wondering whether the Vuori joggers Instragram keeps telling us to buy live up to the hype. According to Mom Group they really, really do. Considering some of us (hi it’s me) haven’t upgraded our lounge wear in years and may still be rocking our maternity leggings, we feel this is a very justifiable ask.

We love a gift that feels like something we wouldn’t buy ourselves. Barefoot Dreams has created some sort of magical fabric that feels like a cross between a cloud and a hug. This cozy robe (apologies to Kristin Wiig) needs to be on our bodies at all times. Every mom deserves to feel this comfortable.

Speaking of what every mother deserves: PAID LEAVE. This isn’t moms’ fight alone and it would be such a gift to have our partners and families join in on this fight. Right now it’s crucial to contact our Senators and tell them to keep paid leave in the Build Back Better plan. Take a second and gift this to all the moms in your life.

We all know moms get shit done and we also know moms are constantly overwhelmed and inundated with information and interruptions. So many of you said you wanted an Apple Watch and for good reason. Our hands are full and so are our brains. Please automate our lives.

Another thing you’d love to see on your wrist: the Catbird Sparkler Bracelet. Equal parts fancy and fun, it’s the tassels for us. We also have our eye on the matching Sparkler Earrings.

Quince made it on to a ton of your lists and for good reason — cashmere under $100 is UNHEARD OF these days. This cashmere duster cardigan has us dreaming of starring in our own little Nancy Myers vignette. Just add a cozy mug of your favorite tea.

Named for the Brazilian NGO that brings technical support to organic cotton farming families, we can personally attest to the comfort and cuteness of these Veja Esplar sneakers. They pair equally well with leggings and dresses — a prerequisite for all shoes in our opinion.

For the plant mamas out there, these Bubble Planters from BIPOC-owned Elysian Studios are handmade and come in the most soothing earth tones. Her work is so beautiful we’re eyeing these Mound Planters, too.

The moms have spoken and they want to LOUNGE. These organic thermal wide-leg pants from MATE the Label seamlessly transition from playground to couch. And they’re on sale.

Apparently we aren’t the only ones feeling like motherhood in a pandemic has aged us beyond our years. So many Mom Group requests for some fancy skincare that actually works. We love Sanajan — a brand steeped in Ayurvedic tradition that’s Vogue-approved. The Radiance Face Serum can almost make us forget we’ve been frowning for the past two years. We also love the Brightening Mask.

Speaking of “self-care” (a loaded term for moms with no effing space/time), most of us haven’t seen the inside of a spa in what feels like a lifetime. Slather on a face mask and start up your Vitruvi diffuser with some of their Retreat Blend and it almost feels like a mini-momcation. The Unwind Kit looks pretty dreamy, too.

Mama would also like some kickass boots because she WILL be going out and doing things again soon. These Free People Western Boots personify where we’re at these days: a little rough around the edges and taking no shit but still damn sexy. Send her out for a solo cocktail in her new boots. She deserves it (and more).

PS. We want to help take some things off your plate so we put together these highly-curated gift guides for the loves of your life: Your BFF, Kids, and Partners. If you found our gift guides helpful, sign up for our newsletter so you never miss a post and pay it forward by sharing to a friend!
