What is The Chamber of Mothers?

The Chamber of Mothers is a collective movement to focus America's priorities on mothers' rights.  The Chamber is here to provide a straightforward way for motherhood leaders, organizations, and advocates to assemble in order to make lasting change. Working as a collective, we can influence millions of people, making it easy to get involved in advocacy and make a true impact. This is a long game.

Mothers are tired, but they want to do more. We’ve heard from Mom Group members, “how can I help? What can I do to take action?” This is the answer. The Chamber will welcome your gifts and offers, and redirect them to the right place. Modeled after the Chamber of Commerce, it will similarly pool stakeholders and resources to protect the best interests of mothers. Leveraging the power of social media, the Chamber will direct all mothers and advocates in aligned action.

Conceived by Alexis Barad-Cutler, Blessing Adesiyan, Daphne Delvaux, and Erin Erenberg, while doing bedtime routine, nursing babies, and folding laundry respectively, these organizers called in other motherhood community leaders to bring their collective gifts, talents and influence to the initiative.

Why We Need a Collective

The movement for a federal paid family and medical leave program has existed for decades, and due to the tireless work of a diverse coalition of advocates, it’s now poised to secure America’s first-ever national paid leave policy. However, paid leave is at risk of being cut from the final legislative package – which is why we need to mobilize more voices than ever before to demand that Congress delivers for women.

We can’t keep prostrating ourselves year after year, with our postpartum stories of bloodshed and sharing photos of battle wounds. We should be able to care for our families without losing, or leaving our jobs. Paid family and medical leave is a necessity, and a human right.

The Mission

Today's immediate goal : To stop the feed and make everyone pay attention to mothers' needs. We want to put Congress on notice that we are paying attention, we are angry, and we are ready. Our first action item as a coalition is to assemble, and secure federal paid leave. Once assembled, we will work with advocacy groups, companies and Congress to tackle every issue that's holding modern mothers back from being whole. Other items on the agenda: protected time off to care for kids who are home sick, access to childcare, flexibility upon return from leave, etc. But protecting birth and recovery is where it all starts.

We need your help. Want to get involved?
