The PMS Tea That Also Helps With Covid-Rage

The PMS Tea That Also Helps With Covid-Rage

We spoke to vegan chef and blogger Charlise Rookwood about a lot of things on our recent IG Live, but one of the things that stood out was how -- even if you're a glowing wellness influencer, the Covid wall can come for you, too. No matter how many sage sticks you burn, or how much yoga you do, it can feel all but impossible these days to avoid moments (or extended "moments") of feeling rage, or burnout, or like you're going over-the-edge.

"This month was especially bad," reflects Rookwood, during our chat. "It feels like I have this two week buildup of madness, then I'm in it, and then I've got to get the fuck out of it. But it feels like it's all week. And my poor family . . . actually [my daughter] just looks at me like . . . "What's wrong with you, Mum?"

One of her go-to's these days is a special pineapple turmeric tea she likes to call her "PMS Tea" -- not only for its anti-inflammatory ingredients and uplifting aromas, but its calming effects as well:

"It's really helping with water retention, I feel like its helping with my mood . . . I'm sure part of it is psychological . . . but it's also real."

If you want to give it a try (why not? We've got nothing but time, and these four walls for now!), Rookwood shared her recipe with Not Safe For Mom Group (nsfmg) below. Let us know how it makes you feel!

Vegansoulicious's PMS Tea:

• Pineapple skin and the middle core

• 1 inch fresh turmeric or 1 tsp of powdered

• 1 cinnamon stick or 1 tsp of powered

• 3 inch fresh ginger root or 2 tbsp of ground

• 1/4 cup organic elderberries

• Sweeten with agave to taste.

Rookwood likes to get every bit of juice out of the pineapple skin, so she she uses a potato masher. Simmer for 1 hour, strain, and enjoy.  Drink it hot or chilled in the fridge. (Herbs delivered by @vinnyvegan .)

Why This Tea Helps With PMS:

• Pineapple

Contains an enzyme called bromelain. It can help in shedding the lining of the uterus, which kickstarts your periods. This fruit also increases the production of red and white blood cells, which helps in blood flow.

• Ginger

The vitamin C and magnesium content of ginger can help your uterus to contract, which in turn, starts your periods!

• Cinnamon

Can also be used for making your cycles regular. It warms up the body from within, which increases the blood flow.

• Turmeric

It  has many medicinal properties and it can be consumed to treat irregular periods. It can also be beneficial in curing period cramps.
